Scheimpflug, Theodor (1865-1911), Austrian naval officer and photographic inventor. Although mainly identified with the Scheimpflug rule governing camera movements, he also made important contributions to aerial photogrammetry and in 1903 patented a ‘perspectograph’ for correcting perspectivally distorted aerial photographs for use in mapping. His work was continued after his death by the Scheimpflug Institute in Vienna. His method of photographing the anterior segment of the eye is still used in ophthalmology.
