Review

Farris' second album cycles through many of the Chicago producer's musical interests, from jazzy house (complete with trumpet samples) on "The Grail," contemplative tech-house on "Origins," and on several tracks ("Confession," "The Gospel," "The Big Doobie," "Let Yourself Go"), extroverted filter-disco club stompers. These are all done well, but they can't hold a candle to the irresistible, tragically brief interludes "This Is My Religion" (the intro) and "Smoke Session Pause" (halfway through the album), a pair of excellent down-tempo sample tracks. Another highlight is "I Wanna Love You," complete with smoking synth-groove and a bridge worthy of a classic Donna Summer track. Everything Farris does he does quite well, and though he's never pioneering a new sound on This Is My Religion, his devotion and worship are evident. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
