Review
This Is Not a Soundclash is as much of an overview of Nuphonic's compilations as it is a compilation of material previously unavailable on compact disc. A budget comp that takes roughly half of its material from Nuphonic, Vol. 1 through Nuphonic, Vol. 4, it's definitely not intended for anyone remotely familiar with the label's roster. As an introduction it's ideal, offering a set of 12 tracks that gives the newcomer a clear picture of the label's aesthetic: quality house music of all stripes. Faze Action's gorgeous, classicist disco ("In the Trees"), Tiny Trendies' creepy house-funk ("The Sky Is Not Crying"), Black Jazz Chronicles' frantic techno-jazz ("Snooky's Spirit"), and Yellow Sox's pulse-racing groove ("Flim Flam") shine the brightest. Other contributions come from Natural Calamity, Block 16, Fug, Rollercone, Fenomenon, Ladyvipb, Justin Robertson, and Adam Goldstone (also the man behind Tiny Trendies). ~ Andy Kellman, All Music GuideTracks
