Review

While national retail chains like Starbucks and Victoria's Secret have issued or given away compact discs as a means to promote their core businesses, This Is the Music for Me may be the first such release tied to a single store -- in this case, Olivine Atelier, an upscale women's clothing boutique located in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. The disc is no homemade CD-R, mind you -- it's a professionally produced premium complete with well-known bands, label-quality packaging, and a cover of the perennial "Nature Boy" by ex-Posies singer/guitarist Ken Stringfellow recorded exclusively for this set. Not only is This Is the Music for Me a positive PR move for Olivine Atelier, but it's also a boost for Seattle's local indie rock scene, offering valuable exposure guaranteed to reach the kinds of hip, well-heeled listeners who comprise the sweet spot of audience demographics. An interesting idea, and well-executed -- highlights include Visqueen's "Sailor," the Long Winters' "Cinnamon," and Brad's "Shinin'." ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
