Dictionary of Dance: Thomas Armour

Armour, Thomas (b Tarpon Springs, Fla., 7 Mar. 1909). US dancer, teacher, and director. He studied with Preobrajenska, Eglevsky, and others and danced with the companies of Rubinstein (1933-4), Nijinska (1934), Woizikowski (1935-8), Rio de Janeiro Opera House (1939), and Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (1931-41). He founded his own school in Miami in 1949, became director of Miami Conservatory of Music and Dance, and in 1951 was founder-artistic director of Miami Ballet, named artistic director emeritus in 1995.
