Ewing, Thomas, Jr. (1829-96) Union army officer, born in Lancaster, Ohio. Ewing achieved an outstanding military record in the turbulent border area of Kansas and Missouri. When in command of the St. Louis District, Ewing resisted the advance of Sterling Price at Fort Davidson (1864). He was promoted to major general and resigned in 1865. After the war he served two terms in Congress (elected 1876) as a Democratic representative from Ohio.
