(c.1791–1831)

He published several books on the Picturesque Tudor style, including Half-a-Dozen Hints on Picturesque Domestic Architecture… (1825, with subsequent editions), Designs for Parsonage-Houses, etc. (1827), and Exemplars of Tudor Architecture … (1830, 1841). He designed (1815) the Neo-Classical mausoleum of Robert Burns (1759–96) in St Michael's churchyard, Dumfries, and (1815–17) the Old Episcopal (later Wesleyan) Church in Buccleuch Street, also in Dumfries, with an Ionic portico.
