Thomas Jefferson University declares its graduates to be masters of health advancement. Its Jefferson Medical College has departments and clinics in surgery and specialized areas including obstetrics, neurology, and psychiatry. The Graduate Studies department offers programs in public health and biomedical studies. The College of Health Professions has programs in nursing, pharmacy, bioscience technologies, and counseling. Student enrollment is approximately 2,600. The university tests or treats 25,000 inpatients and more than 300,000 outpatients each year. Thomas Jefferson University was founded as Jefferson Medical College in 1824. Since then it has granted more than 27,000 medical degrees.
