( b Langaa, 5 Dec 1852; d Gentofte, 4 Feb 1927). Danish church musician and composer. He studied with Gebauer at the Copenhagen Conservatory (1873-6) and became interested in the Cecilian movement: as writer, editor and composer he devoted himself to restoring the traditions of Danish church music based on plainsong and the chorale. The most important collection of his compositions is Dansk kirkesang (1918). As organist he followed Gebauer at Helligåndskirken in Copenhagen (1884-91) and Gade at Holmens Kirke (1891-1925).
