Thomsons Online Benefits provides technology and consultancy services related to total reward and flexible benefit programmes in the UK and worldwide. With offices in London, England, Hong Kong and Singapore, the firm employs approximately 130 staff.

History

Thomsons Online Benefits was founded in 2000 and was subject to a venture capital backed management buyout in 2004. It was ranked 72nd in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 listing for 2009 (44th 2008, 54th 2007, 32nd 2006), a sister listing to the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 for Britain's fasted growing unquoted technology companies[3], and obtained a listing in the EMEA Deloitte Fast 500 in 2007[4] and 2009[5]. Its growth has coincided with sector growth, where it is only within the five years to 2008 that comprehensive flexible benefits schemes have started to become more common in the UK [6]; greater employee access to internet-enabled services; and studies suggesting that employee engagement can be boosted by their successful adoption, which in turn improves performance, absenteeism and staff turnover[7][8].

It also reflects a trend in outsourcing Human Resources related activity, whether for cost reasons or to secure services not available in-house, as in the case of the Ministry of Defence where members of the Armed Forces were provided with an online tool to assist them in their choice of pension scheme[9][10].

Operations

Thomsons Online Benefits is an award-winning[11] Independent Financial Adviser that provides an on-line Employee Benefits portal for its clients and over 300,000 employees. Clients include Computershare and Ministry of Defence. It also performs an annual survey which has tracked, among other things, changes in employers' perceptions of the value of flexible benefit provision.
