Biography

Thou Art Lord is the experimental industrial/deathcore/black metal side project helmed by Rotting Christ vocalist/guitarist Sakis Tolis and Necromantia bassist the Magus. Formed in 1992 to explore the duo's fascination with everything satanic, evil, and sinister, Thou Art Lord's early EP releases (Diabolou Archaes Legeones and a split release with Belgium's Ancient Rites) propagated a wall-of-destruction approach to extreme metal of unparalleled aggression and intensity. Two full-length albums, 1994's Eosforos and 1995's Appolyon, soon followed suit, but Rotting Christ's increasing popularity in the late '90s left little time for Tolis to indulge in Thou Art Lord, which remained inactive for the remainder of the decade. Finally, the project was resurrected in 2002 with the assistance of Septic Flesh vocalist Seth and drummer Akis K., who joined the original duo for the sexually explicit DV8 album, released by Greek independent Black Lotus Records. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

Thou Art Lord are an Athens-based black metal band, formed in 1993. The line-up consists of former or current members of Greek extreme metal bands Rotting Christ, Necromantia, and now-former musicians from Septic Flesh.

The band's first release was an EP/split with veteran Belgian black metal group Ancient Rites, an effort which would give the group heavy exposure and lead to a record contract with Unisound. They would release their debut full-length album Eosforos the following year, in 1994. Their second release, Apollyon, would be distributed two years later, followed by departure from Unisound and a 6-year hiatus.

The direction of the band is different from the members' main projects, which have used unpredictable streaks of atmosphere, melodicism and experimentation. On the contrary, Thou Art Lord's musical approach is raw, unrelenting death/black metal, with lyrical themes of "apocryphal worshipism" and "Dionysian-influenced satanic philosophy" [1].

They reconvened in 2002 and released DV8. Their third LP, Orgia Daemonicum, was released in 2005.

The band is currently signed to Black Lotus Records.
