Plot
Valley boys take on the punk rockers in this teen-age adventure. This time they use skateboards instead of zip guns, knives and fists. The rich Valley kids, "The Ramp Locals," are led by Corey Webster, while the leather-clad, street-wise punks follow Tommy Hook. The trouble begins when Corey falls in love with Tommy's little sister who has come from Indiana for a visit. The rivalry between the gangs culminates during the grueling "LA Massacre," a 20-mile downhill skateboarding race. The winning team will earn a corporate sponsor. For the final race, the filmmakers strapped a camera in front of a skateboard to give viewers a sense of the thrills experienced by the daring "thrashers." ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
Review
For '80s skateboard kitsch heaven, it doesn't get any better than Thrashin', the Josh Brolin-starrer that pits skater dudes from the Valley against tough punk skaters led by one of the evil jerks with bad hair in Weird Science. The film encapsulates the Dogtown years of skating, but through the goggles of cheesy '80s cinema. From the ludicrous back flip stunts to the nunchaku jousting sequence, Thrashin' is a wealth of so-bad-it's-good entertainment from the first moment on. Co-starring a young Sherilyn Fenn with a live appearance from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the flick is a virtual who's-who of familiar faces which can be seen in everything from Body Rock to The Lost Boys. Add in at least one extreme air guitar sequence and a bootleg West Side Story plotline and you basically have Thrashin's goods in a totally radical nutshell. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide
