Biography

Tickle Me Pink were formed in Fort Collins, CO, in 2005, but each of the members had extensive musical experience prior to coming together as a group. Sean Kennedy (vocals, bass, guitar) played music for 11 years before founding Tickle Me Pink, studying opera and piano as well as training with classical guitarist Dave Beegle. (Kennedy also released an acoustic solo album in 2006.) Johnny Schou (bass, guitar, vocals) spent time as an assistant engineer at the Blasting Room recording studio and began working with producer Bill Stevenson at the age of 17. Kennedy and Schou recruited drummer Stefan Runstrom, who had played percussion since he was 12, after watching him win a battle of the bands competition. Drawing inspiration for their sound from Third Eye Blind, Brand New, and At the Drive-In, the trio began playing local and regional gigs before bringing aboard a new member. (The decision to round out their sound came after an opening gig for Social Distortion.) Like the other members of Tickle Me Pink, newcomer Steven Beck also had considerable musical experience -- not only had he studied guitar from the age of six, but he also taught at the Academy of Guitar in Fort Collins. After the group independently released the If Only We Were Twenty One and Up and Half Seas Over EPs in 2005 and 2006, Denver radio station KTCL added one of Tickle Me Pink's songs to its rotation, subsequently generating widespread interest in the band. In 2008, Tickle Me Pink signed with Wind-Up Records and issued their debut full-length album, Madeline. Tragically, Johnny Schou was found dead in his Colorado apartment on the morning before Madeline's release. ~ Katherine Fulton, All Music Guide

Tickle Me Pink is a rock band from Fort Collins, Colorado currently signed to Wind-Up Records. The band is composed of Sean Kennedy (lead vocals, bass), Stefan Runstrom (drums), Joey Barba (guitar) and Steven Beck (guitar, vocals). After independently releasing their first two EPs, If Only We Were Twenty One and Up (2005) and Half Seas Over (2006), the band released its debut album, Madeline, on July 1, 2008.[2] The album's release was also marked by the passing of then-band bassist Johnny Schou, reportedly due to a heroin overdose.[3]

Joey Barba, a longtime friend of Tickle Me Pink, was formerly a member of another Fort Collins based band, The Brotherhood of Dae Han, which broke up in January 2008. Tickle Me Pink asked Barba to join them on tour after the death of Schou.

The video for the band's first single, "Typical," premiered on MTV2 Unleashed on August 4, 2008. The video is directed by Christopher Sims. The song has become popular in Colorado due to increased airplay on 93.3 KTCL. The band is currently opening for Hawthorne Heights on their Fall headlining tour. The band members from Hawthorne Heights claim to have asked Tickle Me Pink to join the tour in part due to a sense of shared loss, having lost a band member themselves the previous year.[4]

Their song "The Time Is Wrong" is featured as a free downloadable track in Rock Band 2 which also works with its predecessor. It was released as 1 of the 20 free tracks on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playstation Network, that was talked about before the games' release.
