Tie

A curved line between two notes of the same pitch indicating that they should be performed as a single note with their combined values. It is particularly used to connect notes separated by a bar-line, and enables a note value of five or seven units, which cannot be expressed in a single symbol, to be shown. Occasionally a tie may imply a gentle repetition of the second note.
