Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba are two villages in Eurobodalla Shire, New South Wales, Australia. At the 2006 census, Central Tilba had a population of 223 people,[1] and Tilba Tilba had a population of 275 people.[2]
The area was originally inhabited by the Yuin Aboriginal tribe. Tilba is said to mean wind in the Yuin language.[3] Others have said the word is a Thawa Aboriginal term for 'many waters'.[4] The town was settled during the Australian gold rushes of the nineteenth century.
Central Tilba is located around 10 kilometres south south west of Narooma.[4] The entire village is classified by the National Trust as the Central Tilba Conservation Area.[5]
