- Location: Canada, UK
1. Canada (Ontario): founded as Tilbury West Township and Tilbury East Township at the end of the 18th century. They merged into Henderson after the postmaster, David Henderson, in 1871. In 1887 this was changed to Tilbury Centre; the 'Centre' was dropped in 1895. Lying on the River Thames, the town was named after the Tilbury in England, which also lies on the River Thames.
2. UK (England): formerly Tilaburg and Tiliberia, most likely 'Tila's Stronghold' from an Old English personal name and burh.
