Tim Tyler's Luck

Tim Tyler's Luck was an adventure comic strip created by Lyman Young, older brother of Blondie creator Chic Young. The strip ran from August 13, 1928 until August 1996.

Tim Tyler started in an orphanage, but soon acquired an older sidekick named Spud and was having adventures around the world. Most of his adventures were set in Africa.

Young would employ many ghost artists on the strip, some of whom became famous and successful. The artists included Alex Raymond, Burne Hogarth, Clark Haas, Tony DiPreta, Nat Edson, and Tom Massey.

In 1972, Young's son Bob Young started working (and sharing credit) with his father on the strip, completely taking over after Lyman Young's death in 1984. The strip slowly petered out and was only carried in one paper when it was cancelled in 1996.

A 12-part 1937 movie serial starred Frankie Thomas as Tim Tyler.

The title of the Umberto Eco novel The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana (2004) is a reference to a character from the strip.
