Review

This thinly disguised reissue of Tina Tuner's lone country album, originally issued on the United Artists label in 1973 and entitled The Country of Tina Turner, is actually an unheralded masterpiece. Turner took the best songs of the day and turned them inside out to fit her soul and funk background. Among the true gems here -- though nothing on this album is substandard -- are her readings of "Stand by Your Man," "Soul Deep," "Good Hearted Woman" by Waylon and Willie, and "We Had It All." The sound quality isn't pristine by any measure, but this album is only available from rather sketchy sources, so what are you gonna do? It's cheap and worth checking out if you are a Turner fan at all. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
