Tiro is a village in Crawford County, Ohio, United States. The population was 281 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Tiro is located at 40°54′24″N 82°46′19″W / 40.90667°N 82.77194°W / 40.90667; -82.77194 (40.906753, -82.772054)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 281 people, 103 households, and 76 families residing in the village. The population density was 682.4 people per square mile (264.6/km²). There were 109 housing units at an average density of 264.7/sq mi (102.6/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.22% White, 1.07% Asian, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.78% of the population.

There were 103 households out of which 38.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 21.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the village the population was spread out with 33.5% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $30,750, and the median income for a family was $30,357. Males had a median income of $26,964 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the village was $12,670. About 9.0% of families and 13.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.2% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.

Tiro is home to the Testicle Festival every spring. This event is put on by the Tiro Tavern, a bar/diner located in Tiro.[4]
