Tirol (Italian: Tirolo; German: Tirol, also Dorf Tirol; Latin Tyrolum; many of the region's Italian languages/dialects use Tirol) is a comune (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 70 km north of the city of Trento and about 25 km northwest of the city of Bolzano (Bozen).

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,361 and an area of 25.6 km².[1] According to the 2001 census, 97.69% of the population speak German, 2.13% Italian and 0.18% Ladin as first language.[2]

The municipality of Tirol contains the frazione (subdivision) St. Peter (San Pietro).

Tirol borders the following municipalities: Kuens, Algund, Meran, Moos in Passeier, Partschins, Riffian, and Schenna.

The name of the historical region of Tyrol, stems from the Castle Tyrol, which is located in the village.
