Pedigree
Tiznow, bred by the late Cecelia Straub Rubens, is out of the Seattle Song mare Cee's Song. His sire is Cee's Tizzy. He was trained by Jay Robbins and ridden by Chris McCarron.
Racing
Tiznow was noted for his toughness on the dirt. In fifteen starts, Tiznow won 8 times, placed 4 times, and came in third twice. Over his career he won $6,427,830.
At 3, he won the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), beating Irish champion Giant's Causeway, Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, and Lemon Drop Kid. He also won the Super Derby (G1), Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (G2), and Affirmed Handicap (G3), and was second in the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) and Swaps Stakes (G1).
When he was 4, he again won the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), beating Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sakhee. He also won the Santa Anita Handicap (G1), and the San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes (G2), placed in the Strub Stakes (G2), and was third in the Woodward Stakes (G1) and the Goodwood Breeders' Cup (G2).
Tiznow is the only racehorse to date to have won the Breeders' Cup Classic twice. He was inducted into racing's Hall of Fame in 2009.
At stud
At stud his fee is relatively low in 2008 ($75,000 for a live foal) as his pedigree is unusual for a great horse; he is one of the few modern Thoroughbreds whose sire line does not end at the Darley Arabian. A direct male line decendant of Man O' War, his sire line ends instead at the Godolphin Arabian. (A full brother, Budroyale, also finished second in the Breeders' Cup Classic.) Tiznow nonetheless has made a reasonably promising start to his career as a stallion. As a freshman sire, Tiznow sired 2005 Eclipse Award champion juvenile filly Folklore, who won the 2005 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Tiznow is the sire of 2008 Belmont Stakes champion Da'Tara. The bay colt scored a gate-to-wire upset over Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown, who was eased in the stretch and finished last. He is also the sire of Well Armed, the winner of the 2009 Dubai World Cup.
Other top performers include Bullsbay, Tough Tiz’s Sis, Da'Tara, Slew's Tizzy, Colonel John, Miss Tizzynow, Liquidity, Sweet Sugaree, Informed, Outrageous Limit, Bear Now, Tizthen, Sure Why Not, Tis a Man, Tizaqueena, etc.
In 2006, Champion sire Tiznow's 2-year-olds sold for $350,000-500,000. His yearlings sold for $200,000-300,000. Mares in foal sold for $300,000-1,600,000.
Tiznow is the #1 First-crop covering sire and #1 first-crop weanling sire.

Peppers Pride, the undefeated winner of 19 consecutive races and the 2007 and 2008 New Mexican champion, has been bred to Tiznow and is in foal as of May 2009.
Horsemen rank Tiznow as the top 7th stallion currently at stud. The order is A.P. Indy (b.1989), Distorted Humor (b.1985), Smart Strike (b.1992), Dynaformer (b.1985), Awesome Again (b.1994), and finally the "to be pensioned" stallion (as of 2009), Dixieland Band.[citation needed]
