Review
The Boyoyo Boys, a four-member South African ensemble, offered boiling-hot examples of 1980s township music on this ten-cut disc. As saxophonists Lukas Pelo and Thomas Phale provided a mix of outside riffs and funky, bluesy licks, bassist Vusi Xhosa laid down booming lines, with guitarist Vusi Nkosi skittering, flickering and riding the waves atop the beat. The songs were short, catchy, hook-laden workouts, done at fever pitch. A bonus was violinist Noise Khanyile, whose sawing, spiraling solos turned several selections into bubbling, explosive triumphs. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music GuideTracks
