Life and career

Sand was born in Burbank, California. He has dual American and Danish citizenship and early in his career, he represented Denmark as a single skater. He competed for that country at the World Figure Skating Championships and the European Figure Skating Championships in the early 1980s.

In 1985, Sand began competing as a pair skater with Lori Blasko, representing the United States. They were the 1985 U.S. national bronze medalists on the junior level.

Following that partnership, Sand teamed up with Natasha Kuchiki. They are the 1991 U.S. National Champions and 1991 World bronze medalists. Kuchiki & Sand competed together at the 1992 Winter Olympics, where Sand fell in love with Jenni Meno.

Meno and Sand teamed up on the ice in April 1992. They won three national titles, three medals at the World Championships, and competed in two Olympic Games. Following their retirement from competitive skating, they skated professionally in the Stars on Ice tour for six seasons.

Jenni Meno gave birth to their first son, Jack, in 2004, and their second son, Matthew Kenneth Sand, on August 14 2006

Sand has recently appeared in the ITV series Dancing on Ice with double Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes. Meno and Sand currently coach John Baldwin and Rena Inoue among others.
