The people of Tohoku, the northern part of Japan's main island, rely on Tohoku Electric Power for their electricity needs. Founded in 1951, the company produces electricity at its thermal, hydroelectric, and nuclear power plants, which have a combined generating capacity of almost 18,000 MW.
