Architecture and Landscaping:
Tokuma Katayama
(1854–1917)
Japanese architect. He designed the National Museums in Nara (1894), Kyoto (1908), and Tokyo (1909), all in a Neo-Classical style with a pronounced Beaux-Arts flavour. His Akasaka Palace, Tokyo (1903–9—now the State Guest House), was influenced by the work of Hasenauer and Semper in Vienna (which city Katayama had visited earlier), and by the Louvre in Paris.
