No, diazepam is a benzodiazepine whereas Requip is an anti-Parkinson's drug. Requip works primarily on dopamine receptors in the central nervous system. Diazepam works on benzodiazepine receptors on GABA neurons. It is thought that Requip may have negligible activity at other GABA sites, but this is not its main mechanism of action. In terms of toxicity screen, I have not found data stating that Requip will give a false positive for benzos. High concentrations of fenoprofen, flurbiprofen, indomethacin, ketoprofen, and tolmetin (these are NSAIDS) may give a false-positive result by a TDx assay. Sertraline (Zoloft) may cause a false-positive urinary benzodiazepine assay using the original cloned enzyme donor immunoassay system

The causes of gastric ulcers include H. pylori infection, NSAIDs (Non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory drugs), stress, and malignancy. If malignancy is identified, surgical removal is undertaken. If H.pylori infection is confirmed (by culturing or by detection of circulating antibodies) appropriate combination antimicrobial therapy is instituted. Otherwise, H2 receptor antagonists or H+, K+-ATPase inhibitors are administered. Physiologically speaking, peptic ulcers arise due to an imbalance of acid secretory and mucosal protective mechanisms. About 20% of stomach ulcers are caused by NSAIDS such as aspirin, indomethacin, etodolac, ibuprofen, tolmetin, meclofenamate, etc. About 80% of stomach ulcers are caused by H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori), which is a bacterial infection. Summary of factors leading to stomach ulcers:

  • H. pylori infection.
  • Decreased mucous protection of stomach lining. Acid attacks unprotected stomach lining leading to ulcer.
  • Excessive use of NSAIDS.
  • The mucosal lining of the stomach is eroded.
  • Secreted HCl and pepsin attack the unprotected surface of the stomach.
  • Insufficient prostaglandin production.
  • Complicating factors: smoking, alcohol, stress.
