Tomentose is a term used to describe plant hairs that are bent and matted, forming a woolly coating. Often the hairs are silver or gray-colored. Many species of plants that have this type of structure have been named for it, including Achillea tomentosa, Aristolochia tomentosa, Leontopodium alpinum, Opuntia tomentosa, Paulownia tomentosa, Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, and Uncaria tomentosa.
