Tommy Igoe
Tommy Igoe, a New Jersey native, has been at the forefront of drum set performance and education for over twenty years. Tommy studied drums with his father Sonny Igoe, noted jazz drummer (Benny Goodman, Woody Herman) and student of Henry Adler. At age 18, he toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and has since performed with Lauryn Hill, Stanley Jordan, New York Voices, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Dave Grusin, The Chieftains, Patti Austin, Darlene Love, Rita Coolidge and Dave Wilcox. His final engagement during this period was with the Art Garfunkel Band, where he toured nationally, and in European and Asian tours for over nine years. In 1997, he was approached by the writers of The Lion King to assist in writing its percussion and drum set book, which is now used in ten different productions. Currently, he holds The Lion King drum chair where he serves as assistant conductor.[1] He wrote its drum set book, which is now used in eight productions. He lives in the New York area, where he performs and keeps a private teaching schedule.
Tommy Igoe has published instructional materials for students and teachers. Starting with the most anticipated package, the tracks from his debut album, drums removed, which is titled "The New Ground Tracks." His books include "Groove Essentials" (2004) and his DVD’s include the "Groove Essentials" companion DVD and "Getting Started on the Drums"(2002). Igoe performs weekly with his Birdland Big Band at the renowned 44th Street New York nightclub named for Charlie Parker.
