Tomy
(established 1924)

Eiichiro Tomiyama founded this leading metal toy company in Tokyo in 1924. However, it was not until after the Second World War that the company began to be recognized outside Japan when, in the early 1950s, it was involved with both the manufacture and export of large metal toys. In 1963 the company's manufacturing wing became the Tomy Kyogo Company and its sales wing the Tomy Company, with a global network being established in the following decade. In 1980 a research laboratory was opened for the design of toys for children with physical disabilities and visual impairments. The company currently has subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
