Richard Anthony 'Tony' Newman (born 17 March 1943, in Southampton, Hampshire) is an English rock drummer. He was at various times a member of the bands Sounds Incorporated, May Blitz, Three Man Army and T. Rex, Boxer and has also worked with Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Donovan, Mick Ronson, Gene Vincent, Crystal Gayle and Smashers amongst others.
He played on Donovan's "Barabajagal" (recorded in 1968, featuring ghost note snare work against a solid groove),[1], as well as on Jeff Beck's Beck-Ola (recorded in 1969). For David Bowie, he performed on the Diamond Dogs album in 1974 and live with Bowie on his subsequent North American tour, including a recording at the Tower Philadelphia released as David Live.
He resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his wife Toril. Newman has five children, three of them drummers.
