Review

Carly Simon slightly anticipated the trend toward contemporary pop singers by turning to pop standards here, singing songs like "I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good" and "Body and Soul." The theme, of course, was romantic torment, and it was expressed no better than on the final track, a new song from Stephen Sondheim's then-upcoming musical Merrily We Roll Along called "Not a Day Goes By" that Simon delivered with heartbreaking conviction. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
