Toronto Dance Theatre
Toronto-based Canadian modern dance company founded in 1968 by Patricia Beatty, David Earle, and Peter Randazzo. For the first twelve years the repertoire was made up of works by all three choreographers. In 1981 Christopher House became resident choreographer. Earle assumed artistic direction in 1987; House took over as director in 1994. The company, initially Graham-based, has had a major influence on the development of modern dance in Canada. Some of its former dancers, such as Peggy Baker and Robert Desrosiers, have gone on to run companies of their own. Toronto Dance Theatre has its own school.
