Torquemada (Ravel: L'Heure espagnole). Tenor. A clockmaker, married to Concepción. While he is out each week setting the town's clocks, she is visited by her lovers. He pretends not to know what is going on and sells the clocks to the various men he finds hiding within them (they are hiding from him). Created (1911) by Mons. Cazeneuve.
