The first part of the film was released in 1986 and the second in 1988, after which the two parts were always displayed together.

The film won the following awards: Grand Prize in Minsk, 1987; Grand Prize in Kiev, 1989; 1st Prize on International Cinema Festival of Television films in Czechoslovakia.

Trivia

  • In the film when Jim returns to the fort, abandoned by his friends, he tells the pirates that he "killed Israel Hands". Despite that fact, in the end of the film we can see the Hispaniola leaving the island, with Israel Hands still hanging alive between her masts, holding the end of the ropes with both hands. It was cut in two by his own dagger during his battle with Jim.
  • Long John Silver misses his left leg throughout the film. However, at the end of the first part, when the pirates secretely meet and Silver takes his place on a barrel, he misses his right leg.
