Trees Cry for Rain: A Sephardic Journey

  • Director: Bonnie Burt
  • Genre: History
  • Release Year: 1992
  • Run Time: 32 minutes

Plot

The title of this program is a reference to a Balkan folk song, sung in the Ladino tongue used by Sephardic Jews in that region. Many of these people met a tragic fate in the Holocaust. Their story is told through the eyes of a young woman who is a member of the Turkish Sephardim community. From her new American home, Rachel Amado Bortnick shares stories and traditions that have been passed on to her. The documentary features photographs, music, and a cooking demonstration of some of the unique foods of her culture. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide
