Trevor Nelson MBE (born 26 December 1968 in Hackney, London) is an English DJ and presenter.
Born in Hackney to a family of St Lucian heritage, he attended Central Foundation Boys School in Islington.[1] His first job was in a shoe shop, but his love of music meant a part time role as a DJ. Nelson gained day time work at a record importer in 1985, and widened his DJ experience putting on "warehouse parties" on the weekends.[2] Nelson then worked in A&R for record labels Cooltempo([1]) and EMI, promoting artistes such as D'Angelo, Mica Paris and Lynden David Hall;[1] while also promoting events, including his own Soul II Soul and The Lick.
Nelson began DJing on pirate radio station Kiss from 1985, which when it gained a broadcasting license in 1990 to become Kiss FM, Nelson became a director and day time DJ. Nelson moved to BBC Radio 1 in 1996 to present the first UK national R&B show "Rhythm Nation,"[1] and a year later began a Saturday afternoon program which resulted in him winning a MOBO Award in 1997 as Best DJ. He now also performs on the Breakfast show on 1Xtra (since 2007), and on Wednesday evenings on Radio 2 (since April 2009) which is produced by independent production company Somethin' Else. His TV career developed on television from 1998 on MTV UK, and presenting The Lick on MTV Base. During the summer season Nelson performs weekly sessions in the Global Room at the nightclub Pacha in Ibiza. Nelson also appeared as a judge on the 2006 show Just the Two of Us, and again in 2007. From September 12th, 2009 Nelson will co-present NFL UK, a weekly American Football highlights magazine show on Five (TV channel) with Natalie Pinkham. The hour long show will air Saturdays at 10:30AM.
A divorced father of two children,[3] Nelson lives in London and is a fan of Chelsea Football Club. Appointed MBE for his contribution to the Millennium Volunteers programme. Nelson also has a home in St Lucia.[1] In 2009 he once again won the MOBO best DJ award.
