The term Trimester (Latin tri = three + mensis = month or "trimestris" = three months) usually means
- A period of 3 months.
- The division of the academic year. There is, in the Northern Hemisphere, a winter term (January-March), a spring term (April-June), a summer term (July-September) and an autumn term (October-December). The summer term is the only one semester break, but which are used mostly for internships, examinations or leave needs. Also at some colleges like the Bucerius Law School, the ESCP-EAP and Japanese elementary, middle and high schools. This academic year is divided in this way.
- The division of pregnancy into 3 sections of 3 months.
