Trimol Group has a license for a mechanically rechargeable aluminum-air fuel cell for use in portable consumer electronics, but the company isn't actively developing the technology. Its Intercomsoft subsidiary provides technology and consumables for producing secure government identification documents. The technology was developed by Supercom of Israel, which broke off its supply agreement with Intercomsoft in early 2005. Intercomsoft continued to provide support services to the Republic of Moldova (traditionally its only customer), but the Republic of Moldova has indicated that it does not intend to renew its supply agreement. Chairman Boris Birshtein owns more than three-quarters of Trimol Group.
