Trop Rock
Trop Rock is a genre of popular music that includes elements of country and rock-n-roll, along with an island theme and lyrics depicting a laidback lifestyle. It is a niche of music that has been around for a while but has recently exploded onto the music scene thanks to the likes of well known musicians such as Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and many others.
Since 2006, a movement known as the “Margarita Mafia", with members in 29 states and Canada, has been promoting awareness of “Trop Rock” as a distinct musical genre, by urging radio stations, music distributors and venues to include “Trop Rock” as a musical style. Many internet sites that support independent music artists are now including Trop Rock as a specific music genre.
Jimmy Buffett has been credited with originating the “Trop Rock" music genre, but there are now many other Trop Rock singer/songwriters, across the United States primarily, with their own distinct fan bases.
