Review

One of the singer's most popular recordings, this LP brings the ballad-based concept to greater acceptance for the late-'80s salsa audience. Paquito Guzmán belts out with customary, impassioned aplomb, the kind that adds extra push to his long-running career, in spite the salsa slump in the early '80s. Although the production seems strictly oriented toward the romantic crowd, and the arrangements have a curious, follow-the-numbers quality, it certainly did not matter for Guzman's followers; the TH Rodven label certainly had a steady, if short-lived, cash cow of the style that ironically helped to awaken salsa from a deadened state. Produced by top TH producer Julio César Delgado. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr., All Music Guide
