Growing in more or less dense tufts or clusters. No single-stemmed plant can be tufted, but many plants with several stems, such as some grasses, saxifrages, and sedums, are always tufted. When the congestion of stems becomes such as to make the plant into a tight, ball-like cushion, the plant is referred to as a cushion plant.
