Turtle Rock Studios was a video game developer founded in March 2002 by Michael Booth, later acquired by Valve Corporation. Turtle Rock Studios was involved in the creation of original titles as well as the provision of consulting services to the digital entertainment industry.

Turtle Rock Studios was most well known for their work on Valve Corporation's Counter-Strike franchise. Works included:

On November 20 2006, Turtle Rock Studios announced Left 4 Dead, a co-operative multiplayer action game. The game is built atop the most advanced version of the Source Engine to date and introduces version 2 of Turtle Rock's AI technology, which had since been updated from the AI used for the bots in Condition Zero. The game released on Microsoft Windows and the Xbox 360 in November 2008.[1]

On 10 January 2008, Valve Corporation announced that they had acquired Turtle Rock Studios.[2] Valve took control of development since then.

On 3 June 2009, Doug Lombardi of Valve Corporation confirmed that they had shut down the studio some time after the release of Left 4 Dead.[3] All former Turtle Rock employees have moved to Seattle and now work for Valve.
