Tutti Frutti

TV Series:

Tutti Frutti

  • Director: Tony Smith
  • Release Year: 1987

Plot

A pre-Cracker Robbie Coltrane was the main attraction in the British comedy-drama series Tutti Frutti. The plot was set in motion when a Scottish singing group called the Majestics, hailed as "the Kings of Rock," embarked upon their 25th anniversary tour. Alas, lead singer Big Jazza McGlone had the bad luck and poor timing to drop dead just as the tour began. In desperation, the Majestics hired Big Jazza's portly and uncharismatic kid brother Danny (Robbie Coltrane) to take his place. The series was distinguished by its renditions of classic rock tunes, with Coltrane's singing a revelation. Also in the cast was a young Emma Thompson, whose performance herein earned her a BAFTA Best Actress award. Lasting six 50-minute episodes, Tutti Frutti aired over the BBC from March 3 to April 7, 1987. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
