Medieval principality, east-central Europe. It comprised the city of Tver and surrounding towns. Founded in 1246, it rivaled Moscow for supremacy in northeastern Russia during the 14th – 15th centuries. It ultimately was annexed to Moscow under Ivan III in 1485.
