Twilight

Plot

Doris Kenyon had one of her best roles to date in this drama of the Canadian North woods. Twilight (Kenyon) is an orphan raised by a lumberman. By the time she has grown into a young woman, her foster brother Jim Anwell (Frank Mills) has become the head of the lumber mill and he has fallen in love with her. Soon after, Elsie Charemant (Sally Crute) comes to town with her father (George Lessey) and tries to steal Jim away. Twilight manages to put a halt to Elsie's plotting, however, and she and Jim promise themselves to each other. Their happiness is threatened by Jules (Harry Lee), a French-Canadian lumberjack who is on a rampage against Jim and who tries to rob the company safe. The couple catches him, but he gets away. While walking through the woods the following night, Twilight is attacked by Jules and she pushes him over a cliff. Believing that she has killed him, she temporarily goes mad. Jules, however, is still alive and he sets fire to the forest. While everyone else is off fighting the fire, Jules shows up and tries to attack Twilight again. She regains her reason and shoots him in the leg. As the fire reaches the house, Jules handcuffs himself to Twilight so that she will either help him escape or perish with him. Jim rescues both of them, and Jules is brought to justice. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
