Twisted Metal

Games: Twisted Metal

Game Description

Calypso is one demented being. Living under the streets of Los Angeles, he conducts a vehicular combat tournament once a year involving destruction of public property and the deaths of innocents and the participants. This isn't something you sign up for; the coordinator chooses his combatants via E-mail. It was this night and this year that you were chosen to enter the Twisted Metal tournament!

Victory is absolutely essential. Those who survive the tournament will meet with Calypso to have one of their wildest dreams fulfilled; there are no limitations on what you can wish for. But to quote a time-proven adage, "Be careful what you wish for."

SingleTrac's Twisted Metal is the first vehicular shooter for the PlayStation console. Featuring twelve whacked out characters and their own unique vehicles, the action takes place from a first or third-person perspective through the streets, rooftops, and suburbs of Los Angeles. Warehouse District Warfare rages through a downtown area, Freeway Free for All parodies drive-by shootings through South Central, and Cyburbia is riddled with school zones, gas stations, and affordable housing.

Among the various combatants are Sweet Tooth, a strange and demented ice cream truck driven by a psychotic clown; the semi-truck Darkside manned by a spawn of Hell; and Thumper, a tough street gangsta pimping around in a pink Caddy. Each vehicle comes equipped with its own special weapon designed to reign even more terror throughout the city streets.

Gameplay involves destroying all of your opponents in any given combat arena; you'll face as many as eight at a time. Players are required to pick up various items and use them against your foes; weapons include homing missiles, regular attack missiles, napalm blasts, oil slicks, freeze missiles, and tire spikes.

So won't you join Calypso and eleven other contestants for a night of carnage and death? Los Angels has never been so alive -- welcome to Twisted Metal!

Roots & Influences

Twisted Metal spawned from the idea of taking cars and combining them with weapons. This idea helped launch the entire genre of vehicular shooters into the mainstream. It also established SingleTrac as a powerful little development company.
