U.P. Trail

  • Genre: Western
  • Release Year: 1920

Plot

This picture, based on the Zane Grey novel, has all the usual elements of a romantic Western -- civil engineer Warren Neale (Roy Stewart) is working on the first transcontinental railroad (Union Pacific -- the U.P. of the title) when he finds Allie Lee (Marguerite de la Motte), the one survivor of an Indian massacre. Once she recovers from the horrifying encounter with the redskins, she and Neale fall in love. Neale leaves her at a trapper's cabin while he goes to a nearby town for supplies. The proprietor of the local dance hall and saloon is Beauty Stanton (Kathlyn Williams), who is also in love with Neale. When she discovers that he is planning to marry Allie, she is heartbroken. But Allie's wicked foster father kidnaps her and Neale has a breakdown. Beauty nurses him back to health, then helps locate Allie. Typically, Neale and Allie are reunited while Beauty suffers a fatal gunshot. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
