US Military Dictionary: U.S. Central Command

USCENTCOM

U.S. unified area command established on January 1, 1983, and commanded by a U.S. four-star flag officer (USCINCCENT) from headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. USCINCCENT exercises operational command of all U.S. forces in Southwest Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. The subordinate component commands of USCENTCOM are: U.S. Army Forces Central Command/Third U.S. Army (USARCENT/Third Army); U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (USNAVCENT); and U.S. Air Forces Central Command (USCENTAF). USCENTCOM has one subordinate unified command, Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT). The bulk of the forces assigned to USCENTCOM are based in the continental United States and are deployed overseas as necessary.
