U.S. Route 11W is one of two routes carrying U.S. Route 11, the other is U.S. Route 11E. The Southern terminus is U.S. Route 11, U.S. Route 70, U.S. Route 11E, U.S. Route 25W, Tennessee Route 1, and Tennessee Route 9 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The northern terminus is U.S. Route 11, U.S. Route 19, U.S. Route 11E, U.S. Route 421, and Virginia Route 381 in Bristol, Virginia.
The highway was once known as "Bloody 11W" because of the frequency of fatal accidents along the route.
