Biography

Throughout the late '90s and into the 2000s, Überzone reigned as California's leading breaks producer, recording primarily singles for many of America's leading commercial dance labels, including City of Angles, Astralwerks, and Moonshine. Born Timothy Wiles yet adamantly billing himself as Q (as named after the "gizmo"-loving James Bond character), the Southern California native developed an affection for all kinds of electronic gear beginning in his early teens. He burst onto the dance scene in 1996/1997 with a pair of landmark singles, "Botz" and "The Freaks," among other productions, for City of Angles. These two singles in particular caused quite a stir at the time and lead many in America to place Überzone alongside such hyped artists as the Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, and Crystal Method. Unlike these other artists, who tended to be album-orientated live performers, Überzone never quite lived up to his commercial billing, as either an album artist or live performer. Nevertheless, America's leading commercial dance label at the time, Astralwerks, signed him and released his debut full-length album, Faith in the Future, in 2001. The relationship with Astralwerks quickly disintegrated after the release, and a year later Überzone moved to Moonshine, America's other leading commercial dance label. Moonshine released The Digital Mix in 2002, a computer-aided mix album featuring numerous Überzone tracks, including several new productions and a special mix of "The Freaks." ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide

Überzone is Anaheim, California native Timothy Wiles, a.k.a Q (James Bond), named after the popular character in the James Bond series played by Desmond Llewelyn. Wiles is well known for concocting interesting gizmos and gadgets. He made a hobby out of collecting electronic music gear since his early teen years, which inspired his nickname. He has been an avid producer on the electronic music and breakbeat scenes since the mid-90s, playing at early raves. His first show as Überzone was for DJ Sharpe at the Edge in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Wiles has produced many popular 12-inch singles which have appeared on many DJ compilation albums, including "Botz," his first EP released on indie dance label "City Of Angels" in 1995, and Space Kadet EP following year in 1996 (containing Botz, Moondusted, The Brain and others). In 1999 he collaborated with Afrika Bambaataa from Soul Sonic Force on the electro breaks driven anthem "2 Kool 4 Skool". He has also toured extensively with such acts as The Crystal Method. His debut album Faith In The Future was released on Astralwerks in 2001. Two mix CDs followed, 2002's The Digital Mix (Moonshine) and 2004's Uberzone Y4K (Distinctive Breaks). Wiles' latest album, Ideology, was released on Nitrus/Equation records on July 31, 2007. He has also been featured in the documentary Better Living Through Circuitry.

Überzone's album Ideology has been met with good reviews:

DJ Magazine, September 2007 4 1/2 stars - Album of the Issue!

BijouBreaks.com, July 2007 "Clearly pushing the boundaries and quality of electronic music to a whole new level. In a world where much EDM-oriented music is converging to a point where many producers are trying to achieve a similar sound or style, Uberzone has managed to shine and stand apart from the rest, while managing to keep things both superbly fun and definitely danceable."
